The PRO GASTRO society is a voluntary, independent, non-profit association of people who come together to spread knowledge about gastroenterology and monitor innovations in gastroenterology in important global gastroenterology centers, as well as monitor other areas of medicine that may directly or indirectly affect the development of gastroenterology.

The purpose of joining the society and operating within it is to convey new knowledge and experience, primarily to its members, who are one of the main carriers of the development of the profession in Slovenia in their field, and also participate in transferring knowledge to other gastroenterologists or doctors of other specialties, and to inform the general public about the activities and achievements of the society.

The objectives of the society are:

• to support biomedical, clinical, nutritional, behavioral and epidemiological research in the field of gastroenterology,
• to help expand general knowledge about gastroenterological diseases and to assist in acquiring new knowledge about these diseases,
• to organize theoretical and practical instruction for interested physicians and other professionals in the field of gastroenterology,
• to establish and maintain contacts with other institutions or societies around the world that deal with a similar field or have a similar work program,
• to raise funds that will enable additional education for its members and the introduction of new interventions in gastroenterology,
• to organize various activities in the field of information, consultation, education and research activities that concern the fields of gastroenterology.
